Florin M. interview
"Working in a foreign country brings you a lot of profesional and personnel experience. The fact of beeing confronted with different technologies and needs gives you another perspective of development and projects gestion."
September 1st, 2002

Florin M. is member of the Pentalog High Tech's off-shore team in Romania since april 2000. He wanted to participate to the experience exchanges between the different groups of the company.

Starting the first october 2002, Florin will work for a year in France at our clients services.

Aleth D. : When did you integrate in the Pentalog High Tech's development team ?
Florin M. : I came to Pentalog High Tech's Brasov office as a stagiar during my studies at the university. The fact of working and studying in the same time allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge learned in the university and to expand my informatic culture. After that, this allowed me to approach the theoretical classes in a more global way and to learn the responsabilities of informatic's development. The university brought me the basic elements regarding modern informatic tools(programing oriented objects, Java, UML, EJB, SGBDR…) and working in a company provided me the possibility of a pratic approach.

Aleth D. : Which are the projects your worked for until now ?

Florin M. : At the beginning, I worked at the datas recovery engine, part of the application ThePort, and specially for its first modul,ThePortMaster, the interface engine, the central part of the IHM application. This engine, which was at the beginning a modul used to transform the datas from the XML files in HTML format, had been improved in prder to permit connections with different datas sources, Oracle databases, LDAP annuars(Active Directory and Open LDAP).

This made me participate to the integration project of ThePort for our french clients : an application of payement gestion and a cotation site for wines, under guidance of Iulia A. (mywineaccount.com). At these two projects of integration, I had the occasion of learning new things in the domain of Oracle databases gestion with Java, all by using the XML's utilities for integration.

The modul EPOLE, based on the The Port's architecture, is one of the last applications I had developed. EPOLE is an application which permits the visualisation on-line of the development of informatic projects.

Aleth D. : What do you expect of your futur sejur in France ?
Florin M. : My hopes relating to my stay in France are at the same time professional and personal. From a professional point of view, I hope to be able to emphasize knowledge which I acquired up to now and to continue the long process of accumulation of information which a developer must follow. Already, I had the possibility of learning various programming languages and of working on Web applications which entered certain logics trades. The data-processing world evolving/moving continuously, and the informational needs in the same way, I hope to satisfy my curiosity very continuously to widen the horizon of my professional knowledge. For that, the data-processing field is a ground favourable with research. The possibility of working in France and more particularly in direct relationship to the customers is also a good occasion to still include/understand better the various needs for the users for whom we develop applications. From a personal point of view I feel also curiosity to be confronted with a European field crop, with different traditions, to know new people.

Aleth D. : How do you hope to emphasize your French experiments after your return in Romania?
Florin M. : I hope that my work in France will be a good experiment of work, undertaken in a different environment, with different colleagues. Personally, I hope that the fact of being confronted with various technologies and needs will give me a vaster vision of the development and management of the projects on which I will work.

Aleth D. : You have a command of the French language remarkably well...
Florin M. : I was likely to follow the courses of a bilingual college French-Rumanian and to be thus confronted with the language, the history and the French culture just as with his economic realities. The conversations with our French colleagues who regularly come to work with us, thereafter, enriched my vocabulary.

Aleth D. :
You had never been in France before ?
Florin M. : For the moment, France is a universe which I know by the books, television or by the intermediary of the French that I met here. Without to have ever gone there, I am sure that there are many the things to like in France. But that remains still virtual. I will know true France only at the time of my arrival in Orleans, the next month. My first interest is to meet and know people and their mentalities. Then, I wait impatiently to visit the Paris, Loire château and his monument. It will be a direct meeting with the history, the culture and the French civilization , which I know yet only by far.I appreciate already the books, the French cinema and I certainly will like the spectacles and others artistic surprises that France will bring to me. Let us not forget the French gastronomy and wine. to have tested the pastis, the wine of Bordeaux and the cassoulet brought by our colleagues of France, I think that that must be very riche en calories too.

Aleth D. :
Would you like to work on mission in other countries for our customers ?

Florin M. : I am opened with any mission among our customers. Working in another country brings a professional and personal new experiment, inevitably enriching.

Aleth D. :
Which are the strong points of your profile CV ?

Florin M. : On the level of the languages of development, I control Java (including JÈE), with related technologies: Applet, Servlets, JSP, JDBC, Parsing XML, Java Beans, RMI, EJB. On the development Web, I can mention the HTML, DHTML, Javascript. On the level of the data bases, I worked on Oracle, ms Access, Fox Pro. The design and development tools which I used are Visual Café, JCreator, Power AMC, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Rational. On the level of the Web servers, I had the advisability of working on several platforms like JSWDK, Apache-Tomcat and JBoss. Let us not forget the use and the hard development of directories LDAP: Activate Directory and OpenLDAP.
