Generosity Month at Pentalog: Keeping Traditions Alive in Pandemic Times

For the past five years, December has been Generosity Month at Pentalog. It’s a tradition dear to us because we use Pentapower from our generous colleagues to positively impact local communities. Throughout the years, our activities helped support projects in education, health, and the environment.

Generosity month at Pentalog

Although such a complicated year, in 2020, we managed to raise money for social causes while staying safe and practicing good hygiene to limit the spread of Covid-19. Sports in a pandemic was an unparalleled motivation because it strengthened our physical and mental health during lock-down and quarantine. Moreover, we had the satisfaction of supporting a few social causes that were having trouble raising donations.

As the end of 2020 approached, we started making plans to celebrate Christmas properly. Meaning, we wanted to get in the Christmas spirit, spend time with colleagues, and support social causes, as we have in previous years.

Unlike many other fields, the tech industry worldwide was mostly spared the consequences of this brutal pandemic. Giving back to local communities is not only a duty but a sign of respect, solidarity, and empathy. Especially now.

If we learned anything in 2020, it’s that nothing is impossible. Therefore, planning everything online, mostly during virtual meetings, was not a problem. Due to our colleagues’ involvement and organizational skills, we carefully prepared “something special” for everyone. We hope we succeeded in bringing a flicker of hope and a smile.

The Power of Solidarity Makes Miracles

Pentalog donated more than 75,000 euros for social causes in December 2020. We focused on supporting the education and health fields, severely impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Therefore, we donated money to more than 20 NGOs and orphanages in Romania that care for vulnerable individuals, such as Hospice, Magic Camp & Magic Home, Help Autism, Regina Maria, Copiii de Cristal, SCUT, Bucuria Darului, and others.

We also donated technical equipment to support better online education in 2021 because charity is not just about helping; it’s an investment in someone’s future.

Like always, this year, we also supported our long-term partners, CS Manastur Rugby Club and ACS Rugby Cluj Junior hosting talented sports figures.

Santa Claus Comes No Matter What

We imagine a world where Santa Claus arrives with presents, health, love, and joy to all children. In 2020, there couldn’t be another way!

I’m so grateful to all Santa’s elves at Pentalog who showed they care and made consistent donations or prepared presents for children cared for by different associations and orphanages in Romania and Moldova. We made sure that every child, no matter their age, received something useful and something to remember at Christmas time: clothes and shoes for cold weather, school supplies, personal hygiene products, sweets, toys, games, and more.

At the same time, we organized online internal activities to get in the Christmas spirit. In December, we usually held the Christmas party, the carol singing event, and the Christmas fair, so there were so many opportunities to spend time together.

In 2020, we had to find innovative ways to get together, but it was still beautiful.

Secret Santa
To make it an unforgettable experience, we needed a Project Manager to organize the entire Secret Santa event. Miruna did a great job registering all colleagues who wanted to take part in this activity. Then, she kept the matching record and informed everybody on a specific Teams group when they could pick up their presents from the office.

Pentalog Christmas Photo Contest
Some of us got into the Christmas spirit early in December. So, we knew that if we started a Christmas photo contest, many colleagues who already decorated Christmas trees and their houses would cheer up the others with their happiness and Christmas outfits. It worked like a charm! Everybody voted, and we also designated a winner who received Pentalog goods.

Remote Christmas Carols Event
A few days before Christmas, we virtually gathered for the last agency meeting of the year. After exchanging wishes and greetings, a few colleagues with beautiful voices sang Christmas carols. The image or the sound may not have been perfect, but I felt my colleagues’ emotions, clapping and cheering. To synchronize remotely while singing is not easy-peasy.

DIY Christmas Wreath
Instead of a Christmas Fair, this year we made beautiful festive wreaths with our own hands. The online meeting gathered colleagues passionate for “do it yourself” activities who recreated some stylish and seasonal Christmas decorations out of branches of fir trees, pine cones, dried fruit, artificial berries, and all kinds of mini ornaments. The result was stunning!

The Great Christmas Bake
Gabi had another great idea: to organize an online cooking session. Not many of us knew how to bake peanut butter cookies, a seasonal sweet treat that Santa likes to find after coming down the chimney. But with a little help from our friends, we learned this as well. And it was a lot of fun!

Last but not least, I want to thank the entire PentaTeam. It was such an incredible year, with many lessons, experiences, and tough decisions. We all learned to value what’s most important in life, to take better care of ourselves and our families, to care about everyone around us, and give a helping hand when possible.

I’m happy we managed to continue the Generosity Month tradition, that we stayed together for the good and the bad, becoming more powerful than ever. No matter what, we stick to our values and play a decisive role in the IT market and local communities.

May we have a safe and healthy 2021!
