Reuters LtdSeptember 2000 - November 2001

Working on Reuters’ Client Management System. I was responsible for production support and front-end development using VC++ 6 and MFC, and back-end Oracle development (PL/SQL, Packages/Views) to support the front-end. The front-end consists of 26 modules (DLLs, COM, ATL).
The work consisted mainly of GUI enhancements to cope with business variations as the application was rolled out to various countries throughout the world. These enhancements were mostly GUI changes, although there were some more basic developments such as providing a facility for the back-end to send notifications to the front-end using sockets.
A background task was to develop web based help systems using Dreamweaver UltraDev 4, JSP and Tomcat/Apache.

Neural Technologies LtdMay 2000 - August 2000

• Develop NT4 VC++/MFC front end to an Oracle Database running under Unix.
• Fraud detection server (C++/STL) running under Unix (Solaris) using CORBA and LU6.2 based interfaces to provide services to various clients on various platforms (Mainframe/Unix). My responsibility was to port the existing Windows NT server to Unix and then develop the interfaces under Unix. Several LU6.2 packages were investigated.

NEOPOST LtdApril 1999 - March 2000

Recruit and lead a small team to work on the REMPI project. I was responsible for design of the architecture and software, and ensuring delivery to time and specification. The REMPI project was sponsored by the EU in conjunction with a consortium of major Postal Services. It was intended to allow end users to communicate with the Post Office via a two dimensional barcode printed on a mail item and via EDI messages posted onto the Post’s website.
A major part of this project was to develop a new EDIFACT standard for this sort of communication and investigate the possibilities for providing an electronic signature.
The software was developed in Visual C++ 5 with MFC as a n-tier application consisting of a combination of ActiveX modules, COM modules and a GUI.

MMTAugust 1997 - March 1999

Working in MMT’s Facilities Management Group involved in a variety of projects, such as:
• Development of an NT service to provide an automatic start mechanism for weekend downloading of data. I expanded the specification to include a management system to allow the services to be controlled and configured remotely, at which point I took on full responsibility for the project. These were written in Visual C++/MFC.
• Ongoing Support for Marks and Spencer’s Buying Department Information system. In order to improve efficiency I developed the service management system to allow all support functions to be carried out remotely. This allowed myself and the rest of the team time to take on other projects.
• Project manage the development of a database system to manage IT Contractor recruitment throughout M&S. I was responsible for the full life cycle from gathering customer requirements to production support. This was written in Visual Basic 5 using SQL against an Access 97 back end. Outlook and Word were used to allow information to be gathered remotely and automatically loaded into the database.
• Project manage taking on support for two existing Access 2 applications. I had a team of three developers and two help desk staff. I was responsible for ensuring year 2000 compliancy of the applications, have them translated into Spanish and ensure sufficient support facilities were in place.
