- Reviewing existing lesson content for errors and inconsistencies.
- Responding to student tasks, providing feedback in the form of a video review suggesting improvements to the students code and giving advice on where they can improve.
- Having Skype calls with students providing details on the industry, getting them ready for a job after the course, reviewing the code, answering any and all questions they have regarding programming, the course structure and it's languages.
As a course mentor, I am in charge of mentoring many students throughout the course by having various Skype calls, answering any questions and producing video reviews. This course goes through the following HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Node.js, Expressjs, and React as well as Redux, from the basics, to creating API's and complex applications.
Taking complete beginners through a 6-month course providing support to students with any issues they have during the course, answering any questions on they have on programming, about the course and future prospects. Starting off with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery building an online portfolio, then moving onto ruby and rails building a full e-commerce website. Dealing with many students can be stressful, so dealing with many issues and time management is a must.
During my time at Flying Saucer I worked on many websites, I used a combination of front-end technologies, Webflow and HubSpot (including HubL) building custom components. The list of projects I worked on are the following:
- Common Energy - https://www.commonenergy.us/
- Flying Saucer Blog - https://blog.flyingsaucer.nyc/ - including all reusable and custom components.
- Responding to student/mentor feedback by updating the existing course content.
- Suggesting improvements.
- Rewriting specific parts of the lessons or the lessons in whole.
- Collaborating with curriculum team to get the best possible content to our students. As a course reviewer, I was in charge of writing the course, providing updates to programming languages used, these include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and also Ruby, as well as framework updates such as Rails and updating the course from Bootstrap 3 to Bootstrap 4. I was able to write a course that was easily understandable for students and newcomers to understand.
During my time at Substrakt, I mostly focus on Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and various front-end languages such as HTML5, SCSS and JavaScript the majority of the time was focusing on frontend development. One of the projects I worked on during my short time here is https://www.directors.uk.com fixing cross-browser bugs and adding additional features to the website, dealing the directorsUK as first line support, directly to fixing any issues that arise.
As an IT Support Assistant, I was tasked with the day to day network disturbances throughout the building. This also included the task of making sure that all office PC's were running smoothly, given the daily task of wiping and restoring operating systems off office systems, maintaining on-site, servers, managing student data and records using active directory, SharePoint software as well as any and all equipment and staff issues within the company buildings.
