How we hire:

At Pentalog, excellence is what you'll do. We're guided by a mission to positively impact the software development world.

At Pentalog, we constantly strive to provide our clients with cutting-edge solutions by utilizing the most recent tools and technology. One of our newest partners is looking to build a Level 2 IT Engineer team that will provide Level 2 monitoring and administration of Oracle databases for the entities throughout Europe during business and non-business hours. Our client is a French multinational universal bank and financial services holding company.

In order to ensure that the DBA services offered to the business are stable, resilient, and performant, this position focuses on the administration of Oracle databases in the European context. Oracle DBA plays a significant role in this area because it is a baseline component that covers a significant portion of the database's functionality. All Oracle databases, the majority of which are situated in Paris, are under the control of the DBA team's production support.

This role requires a willingness and availability for on-site (hybrid mode) work as needed and providing on-call support when required from the Bucharest office.

Job requirements

  • Strong practical skills in areas such as Linux and UNIX administration, Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN, Oracle ASM, Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and database tuning;
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages such as Ansible, Python, Shell, and Bash;
  • Familiarity with Delphix for database duplication and data masking;
  • Knowledge and expertise in managing high availability environments for Oracle databases;
  • Familiarity with ITIL Foundation principles and practices, which would be desirable for managing IT service delivery;
  • Experience in delivering strategic priorities within strict timelines;
  • Capable of providing updates to existing documentation and procedures and providing constructive feedback as needed;
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to maintain focus on assigned tasks and responsibilities;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of French would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the performance and capacity of Oracle databases, ensuring optimal resource utilization and identifying areas for improvement;
  • Implement and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data, ensuring minimal data loss and efficient recovery in case of failures;
  • Analyze database performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively optimize database configurations;
  • Collaborate with the team to design and implement new database and server architectures, including the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Oracle database servers;
  • Provide expert guidance and support to application teams, offering recommendations on database design, performance tuning, and best practices;
  • Respond to and resolve database-related incidents and service requests in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations;
  • Implement and manage changes to the Oracle database environment, following change management processes and ensuring the proper documentation and communication of changes;
  • Proactively work to preserve the required performance standards for a highly demanding service with critical databases, constantly monitoring and optimizing performance to meet service-level agreements.
