Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently announced the expansion of its fully managed foundation model (FM) service, Amazon Bedrock, at the AWS Summit New York[1]. This expansion includes the addition of Cohere as an FM provider, the latest FMs from Anthropic and Stability AI, and a new capability for creating fully managed agents in just a few clicks[1]. This game-changing feature requires no expertise, making it accessible to builders of all skill levels.

New Foundation Models and Model Providers

Amazon Bedrock now offers access to Cohere’s foundation models, Anthropic’s Claude 2, and Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion XL 1.0. These additions provide customers with greater flexibility to experiment and innovate with generative AI applications. Companies such as Bridgewater Associates, Coda, Lonely Planet, Ryanair, Showpad, and Travelers are already using Amazon Bedrock to create generative AI applications.

Cohere’s Foundation Models

Cohere’s Command and Embed are two of the newest foundation models available on AWS Bedrock. Cohere Command is a large natural language text generation model focused on task-oriented dialogue, creating summarization, copywriting, dialogue extraction, and questions and answers. Cohere Embed generates vector embeddings that capture the meaning of text for search, content moderation, and intent recognition.

Anthropic’s Claude 2

Claude 2 is an improvement on Anthropic’s previous AI model, Claude 1.3, particularly in terms of its ability to write code based on written instructions and the size of its “context window,” which means users can now input entire books and ask Claude 2 questions based on their content. Claude 2 is now in the same league as GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, the models which power OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion XL 1.0

Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 (SDXL) is Stability AI’s next-generation open weights AI image synthesis model. It can generate novel images from text descriptions and produces more detail and higher-resolution imagery than previous versions of Stable Diffusion. Stability AI expects that community-driven development will continue with SDXL, allowing people to extend its rendering capabilities far beyond the base model.

Democratizing Access to Generative AI

AWS aims to democratize access to generative AI through services like Amazon Bedrock and collaborations with industry leaders. This expansion allows customers to build generative AI applications more easily, regardless of their expertise level.

Conclusion

The expansion of Amazon Bedrock brings new foundation models, model providers, and advanced capabilities to help customers build generative AI applications. As a company with expertise in AI engineering and a keen interest in AI and LLMs evolution, Pentalog is well-positioned to help businesses take advantage of these advancements and create a competitive edge in their respective industries.

In the mean time, users have the capability to establish agents within Amazon Bedrock, designed to accomplish intricate tasks and furnish tailored, current responses for their applications, all derived from their exclusive data.

However, FMs possess inherent limitations as they lack the ability to perform intricate tasks that necessitate interactions with external systems or access to up-to-date knowledge sources, such as real-time inventory data for an ecommerce enterprise. To enable such capabilities, developers must navigate a multi-step procedure, even for seemingly simple tasks like flight booking or product returns. This entails breaking down the task, furnishing precise definitions and instructions, configuring access to pertinent knowledge sources, and scripting the generative AI application to execute a sequence of API calls in accordance with the plan.

Subsequently, developers are tasked with provisioning and managing the required infrastructure, while also configuring data security and privacy policies—a time-consuming and intricate endeavor. Given the complexity of this process for individual tasks, many businesses find themselves unable to fully unlock the extensive potential of generative AI.

Amazon Bedrock FAQ

What is Amazon bedrock?

Amazon Bedrock offers a completely managed service that provides access to foundation models (FMs) developed by Amazon and prominent AI startups via an API. This empowers you to select from a range of foundation models, enabling you to identify the one that aligns most effectively with your specific use case.

How good is amazon bedrock?

Bedrock proves to be an excellent solution for situations in which organizations require rapid access to advanced AI capabilities, all while sidestepping the complexities of constructing models or overseeing infrastructure. Its utility spans a range of scenarios, encompassing creative content generation, the development of dialog systems, text summarization, crafting multilingual text, and tackling intricate image generation tasks.

Is amazon bedrock generally available?

Announced in April of this year and currently awaiting general availability, Amazon Bedrock will soon provide organizations with the ability to select foundational models from Cohere, along with newly added models from Anthropic and Stability AI. This announcement was made during the AWS Summit New York event.
