AWS Expands Amazon Bedrock: New Foundation Models and Advanced Capabilities for Generative AI Applications

Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently announced the expansion of its fully managed foundation model (FM) service, Amazon Bedrock, at the AWS Summit New York[1]. This expansion includes the addition of Cohere as an FM provider, the latest FMs from Anthropic and Stability AI, and a new capability for creating fully managed agents in just a few clicks[1]. This game-changing feature requires no expertise, making it accessible to builders of all skill levels.


New Foundation Models and Model Providers 

Amazon Bedrock now offers access to Cohere’s foundation models, Anthropic’s Claude 2, and Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion XL 1.0. Cohere’s Foundation Models

Cohere’s Command and Embed are two of the newest foundation models available on AWS Bedrock. Cohere Command is a large natural language text generation model focused on task-oriented dialogue, creating summarization, copywriting, dialogue extraction, and questions and answers. Cohere Embed generates vector embeddings that capture the meaning of text for search, content moderation, and intent recognition. 


Anthropic’s Claude 2 

Claude 2 is an improvement on Anthropic’s previous AI model, Claude 1.3, particularly in terms of its ability to write code based on written instructions and the size of its “context window,” which means users can now input entire books and ask Claude 2 questions based on their content. Claude 2 is now in the same league as GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, the models which power OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 

Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 (SDXL) is Stability AI’s next-generation open weights AI image synthesis model. It can generate novel images from text descriptions and produces more detail and higher-resolution imagery than previous versions of Stable Diffusion. Stability AI expects that community-driven development will continue with SDXL, allowing people to extend its rendering capabilities far beyond the base model.
