About the client
SumUp is a global FinTech startup. Pentalog collaborates directly with the SumUp Berlin office. While SumUp has lately launched several new services such as invoicing, an online store solution and mobile payments, the core business is focused around in person payments using its own card reader. As SumUp charges a low one-off hardware price and a small fee per transaction it provides access for even the smallest businesses to accept card payments in over 30 countries around the world.
While experiencing hyper growth, the main challenge our client faced along the way was to keep up with their ambitious product goals by finding talented engineers in a short period of time to meet these goals.

To successfully grow tech teams, companies can choose between two courses of action: either take on the task of recruiting new candidates or augment teams with external talents – which is what our client did.
Pentalog augmented SumUp teams which allowed SumUp to continue executing the roadmap without taking delays or even accelerating their plans. The first team focused on marketing acquisition solutions and the second on customers support tools. The onboarding of Pentalog team members followed the same program as for all other SumUp employees. Subsequently it was complemented with frequent travels to the SumUp’s office. This allowed us to build a high cohesion within the teams, which is especially important when working remotely.
Team augmentation by Pentalog allowed SumUp to focus efforts on other critical topics. Our remote collaboration practices, our transparency in steering of the collaboration using comprehensible KPIs are appreciated by SumUp.
