Pentalog has an exciting job opening for one of the largest online car dealerships in the UK, who want to revolutionize the car buying process. You'll be working with an existing team as a Platform Engineer focused on observability approaches and tools.

Specifically, you'll be working with the AWS services, serverless and event-driven, as part of the Platform team. The team in charge gives advice and support to other teams who are looking to improve their observability.

They currently use several observability tools, such as Honeycomb, Sentry, CloudWatch, and Datadog. The preferred tool is now Datadog, and the goal is to gradually shift everyone towards it. This role will primarily involve planning and implementing this vision.
 

Job requirements

  • Previous experience with event driven architectures, limitations, patterns;
  • Observability tooling and best practices skills (Datadog, Sentry, Honeycomb, OpsGenie);
  • Solid understanding of the principles and practices of DevOps, including continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD), and infrastructure as code (IaC);
  • Experience with AWS services deployed via IaC (Terraform & Serverless Framework) and GitHub Actions;
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS Lambda: writing, deploying, and monitoring Lambda functions, as well as DynamoDB and S3;
  • Familiarity with best practices for Terraform code structure and module creation;
  • Proficient in developing and debugging applications using TypeScript and Node.js;
  • Hands-on experience with Datadog for performance monitoring, log management, and application performance management (APM);
  • Affinity for solving complex problems and collaborative development;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
     

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for observability tools (Datadog, Honeycomb, Sentry);
  • Guide teams through migration to Datadog from other tools;
  • Develop and maintain common packages for logging and monitoring;
  • Manage the infrastructure used to send data from AWS to SaaS tools (CloudWatch logs, Kinesis Firehose, etc);
  • Provide expertise on AWS cloud services to product development teams;
  • Participate in production incident response (during working hours).
