About the project

Our client and partner is growing their Data Platform team and looking for a talented Senior Data Engineer. In this position, you will contribute to architecture and development of the platform that collects data which is used to help people have amazing, safe trips, as they travel the world.

The client is a very well-known user-generated travel platform – you’ve probably surfed their website while looking for a holiday retreat!

The Data Platform team are the data landscape experts, building out and maintaining truths to enable the company to empower travelers across the world in finding the best hotels, restaurants, and generally great experiences.

 

Job requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with general software development;
  • Solid experience developing complex ETL processes (including defining SLA, performance measurements and monitoring);
  • Experience working with large datasets (terabyte scale and growing);
  • Familiarity with various technologies and tooling associated with databases and big data;
  • Know-how of Relational DB (MS SQL, PostgreSQL/MySQL)
  • Knowledge of best practices around DB administration
  • Experience with Big Data (i.e. Hadoop, Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake)
  • Strong experience in OO or functional programming in Java/Python or equivalent language;
  • Very good Software Engineering principles;
  • Systems performance and tuning experience, with an eye for how systems architecture and design impacts performance and scalability
  • Proven record of mentoring junior members of the team & technical leadership on medium to large size projects;
  • Previous experience in providing innovation via non-trivial solutions to day-to-day problems;
  • An organized, detail-oriented person who is a natural self-motivator;
  • Possessing the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, intense curiosity, and an enthusiasm for solving difficult problems;
  • Able to work with end users to solve technical challenges;
  • Great communication and English language skills.

Responsibilities

As part of this team, the Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for building out all the core datasets that will be used across the company, as well as supporting the analytics, data science, and machine learning teams.

 

Extra skills

  • Exposure to and/or interest in machine learning and data science (specifically to help solve day-to-day problems and reach objectives in an innovative way);
  • Experience working with Apache Airflow or similar systems;
  • Comfortable working in a Linux CLI environment;
  • Experience in designing high-scale, fault-tolerant and performant distributed applications.
